About the Consulate

The Consulate General in Shanghai serves Irish citizens and Irish economic interests in Shanghai and its four surrounding provinces (Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Anhui). It was established in 2000 to promote Irish interests in Shanghai. The decision to open the Consulate was taken by the Government of Ireland as part of its strategy to deepen relations with the People’s Republic of China.

The Irish community now numbers almost 400 in Shanghai, working in a variety of industries. The Consulate organises an Irish community evening on a monthly basis. The consular services of the Consulate are available to all Irish citizens residing in the Consular area. In addition, you are strongly encouraged to register with the Consulate.

Our registration form can be downloaded here.

The Consulate General is open Monday to Friday from 09:30 - 12:30 and from 14:00 - 17:30.

The visa section is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 - 12:30. Telephone queries regarding visa applications may be made from 14:00 - 16:00.
